Teach Me to Feel That Thou Art Always Nigh

Representative Text

ane Spirit of God, who dwells inside my heart,
wean it from sin, through all its pulses move.
Stoop to my weakness, mighty as yous are,
and make me honey you as I ought to love.

2 I enquire no dream, no prophet ecstasies,
no sudden rending of the veil of clay,
no angel visitant, no opening skies;
but take the dimness of my soul away.

3 Did y'all not bid usa love you, God and Male monarch,
honey you lot with all our heart and strength and mind?
I see the cantankerous at that place teach my center to cling.
O let me seek yous and O let me find!

four Teach me to feel that yous are always nigh;
teach me the struggles of the soul to carry,
to check the rising doubt, the insubordinate sigh;
teach me the patience of unceasing prayer.

v Teach me to love you every bit your angels love,
i holy passion filling all my frame:
the fullness of the sky-descended Pigeon;
my eye an altar, and your love the flame.
